Is College Worth It? Pros and Cons

This is an argument that I can relate too. This is probably one of the most relatable things that I may ever blog about because I went to college and have questioned it myself. I have done my research and saw the pros and cons to both sides and have came to my own conclusion about if college is worth it.

I’ll start with the pros because it’s always good to start with the benefits of something (Unless you’re in a job interview. Always start with the weakness first so you don’t leave a bad taste in the employer’s mouth). Everything that I’m saying is based on research. One of the pros is that young adult that attend college learn interpersonal skills. Students have the opportunity to interact with other students, staff, join clubs, and take part in discussions a debate’s which contributes to them developing interpersonal skills. Another pro to attending college is college allows students to explore career options. Colleges offer internships, career services, job fairs, volunteer opportunities, and a variety of college course work that will provide and prepare students for employment. Statistics shows that approximately 80% of college graduates who completed an internship in college was able to get obtain a career because of the experience it was able to provide them with. Also, learning is always worthwhile. College forces students to learn new ideas, ask questions, meet people, to think, imagine. They come to college as one person and leave college as another person.

As there are pros to going to college, there are cons to college as well. Student debt can be overwhelming for students. Also, college students who graduate often work in jobs that do not require a college degree or its not in the field that they went to school for. Also, many people succeed without college degrees. People start their own businesses that take off, or they find really great jobs, it’s loopholes to a lot of things without a college degree. (Ex: Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Walt Disney) Sometimes, many students do not graduate and they waste a lot of their own money and the government money. Also, college is unaffordable to some people. Some people don’t have access to the funds to be able to afford to go to college. The benefit of a bachelor’s degree have been diluted by employers over the years because they are requiring more requirements from students.

As a graduate of college with a bachelor’s degree in English and a film studies Minor, I have to agree with the cons side of things because I am seeing this side of things. Maybe it’s because of my chosen major, but an English major is universal and I think employers and people in general underestimate the value of an English major. I graduated in 2017 and I have yet to find a job that will allow me to use my degree. I am going to be going for my masters in something nonrelated to English and I will be going to get my real estate license. I am still going to pursue my dreams of becoming a writer, but I have to strategize and do things differently. Also, I have unpaid student loans that I can’t afford. As of right now, I am unemployed. I will admit, college has taught me a lot about myself. It has provided me with the necessary tools to be able to communicate properly in the real world, and I do have the degree (not many people can say that). Things will change for me and maybe I will see some of the pros because there are more than what I listed, but as of now it didn’t really do me any justice.

Is Switching To Natural Deodorant Worth It?

For those of you who do not know what an armpit detox is, it is when you don’t wear any deodorant or antiperspirant for a period of time to get rid of toxins that are in your body. An armpit detox removes sticky build up, minimize frequent illness and enlarged lymph nodes, and eliminate odor. Armpit detoxing is not an easy process. It can take a toll on your confidence because all the bacteria that’s been harboring under your armpits are being revealed and it doesn’t smell great. Detoxing will help balance the bacteria in your body resulting in a more natural smell.

To help speed up the process of armpit detoxing you can use a detox mask that consist of bentonite clay, apple cider vinegar, and water mixed together. You put it under your armpits and let it dry on like a mask you would put on your face. Then, wash it off using soap and water. After you have done this, use a cotton ball to put witch hazel under your arms because it is a natural astringent and over time with continued usage, your armpits will lighten up and the toxins from regular deodorant and antiperspirants will release from your body. A lot of people don’t know that your armpits is one of the most sensitive layers of skin on your body and it is one of the entries and exit points of the human body.

Is it worth it to quit deodorant/antiperspirants? Studies have shown that they are linked to causing breast cancer because of the toxic and harmful chemical that are used in conventional deodorant such as aluminum, parabens, phthalates, and propylene glycol. Putting these chemicals into your body can affect your immune health because of the excessive usage of the years. When you put antiperspirant under your arms, it absorbs through the skin and goes into the bloodstream. This can be harmful to your health because of the toxic chemicals. Also, other ingredients that are in conventional deodorants like silica and talc can cause skin irritations.

The smell that you get under your arms comes from built up bacteria that must be released from the body. Sweat is supposed to be odorless.

I am in the process of switching to natural deodorant for health purposes and I want to share my experience, process, and results.

Day 1: I’m currently in the process of moving, so I spent that Saturday packing. I didn’t have any deodorant on, and I was sweaty from all the moving around. I had a lot of must coming from my armpits. Later that night, I showered, and I didn’t put any on before bed like I normally would.

Day 2: I did some more packing, but it wasn’t too much. I was mostly sedentary on that Sunday. My armpits were sweaty and smelled like onions. I used soap and water to wash them, then I put witch hazel under my arms afterwards.

Day 3: I was doing a lot of moving around and I was sweaty. I used soap and water to wash my armpits and then, witch hazel afterwards. I had lots of body odor. I smelled like a bunch of onions that were being heated up in the microwave.

Day 4: I had a much better day in regards to smell. I did sweat a lot, but I rarely had any odor coming from my armpits the entire day until it was time for me to go to bed. Again, I would wash with soap and water and use witch hazel afterwards.

Day 5: It was a much better day. After I showered and put my witch hazel on. I didn’t sweat for the entire day. I didn’t start to smell until it was time for me to go to bed. It was a lot of itching though.

Day 6: I did my usual wash routine. I had physical therapy. For some reason, I was really smelly that day. I don’t know if it was me and I was just in public and paranoid, but my armpits were bad. I also, had a party to go to and my armpits were smelly, they weren’t sweaty though.

Day 7: I did a lot of moving around because I was doing some packing, but I washed my armpits and used witch hazel. After that, I didn’t smell for the remainder of the day and I didn’t sweat. When it was bedtime, only one armpit smelled.

I am now going to try a detox mask and witch hazel for week two and use a natural deodorant as a I transition.

Diet Teas: Fab or Fad?

Studies have shown that “Diet and detox teas may help you temporarily lose water and fecal (sorry) weight, but they have no lasting effect. … Because the Senna Diet Products contain no weight loss ingredients or fat burners, it is are not an effective treatment for weight loss or appetite suppression and does not in fact work as advertised.” There is a trend on Instagram where celebrities are getting paid to advertise these weight loss and detox teas to earn money. One particular celebrity actually said a tea called Teami actually was one of the reasons she had lost her baby weight. So, my question is are these weight loss and detox teas legit?

Rapper Cardi B said, after she had her baby and started getting back into the swing of things and started to lose weight, she used the tea called Teami. She used it to curb her appetite. She said that she lost more weight then she wanted to, but it helped.
Over the past couple months, I have been dieting to lose weight the natural way. Dieting and exercise have been my method. I have read that people were taking these teas and were losing 5 pounds in one week and just these drastic results. I will say that when I first started losing weight, I did lose 7 pounds my first week, so it is possible. I bought one of those dieting teas and tried it out. They consist of a lot of natural herbs, so it says. The taste wasn’t really that great, so I had to add lemon and coffee creamer to it so I’m able to even drink it. I continued to watch what I eat but exercising lacked because of the carpal tunnel surgery that I had and the recovering process. I had one cup in the morning. I will say I did find it useful to be a meal replacement for breakfast. It did help curb my appetite a little bit, but as soon as you miss a cup of that tea, your hunger goes back to normal. I didn’t really lose much weight the entire time I drank the tea. I lost about three pounds. I guess if I drank it much longer, then maybe it could have worked better.
It did contain natural herbs. I can’t remember what the natural herbs in it were, but in the tea bag you can see all the herbs. You don’t have to order those special kinds of teas that the celebrities advertise online for those higher prices. The ones you see in grocery stores by the regular teas carry the same ingredients and herbs.

Overall, I don’t think my weight loss came from the tea. I was already dieting and exercising before I started testing out this theory so, I think it just came from me eating healthy. I hardly noticed any real change in my appetite. So, I can’t really tell if these claims are true that diet and detox teas aid in weight loss.

(Fun fact: Your body is designed to detox naturally so, you do not need a detox tea or any other drink to aid in weight loss.)
